Apparently Columbus day is "Indigenous People's Day" in Seattle now. My opinion is exactly the same about that as it is Columbus day: it's a day off, other than that I don't care.
Holidays only really matter outside of whether it's a day off or not, when they're an excuse to do something fun. Like dress up and eat candy, eat seasonal food, or drink in excess. From my own personal experience, Columbus Day isn't even really "celebrated" anywhere in America. Only some areas have schools that have it off, and only certain businesses will close there doors to "observe" this as a holiday.
I work for the State of California, where they LOVE to "observe" any holiday just to have another 3-day weekend added to the list. We don't get Columbus day off. Neither did the schools within the district that I live in. I obviously can't speak to the rest of the country, but around these parts, we see it as another day.Comment
