One hell shift complete, now for an inadequate supply of sleep and free time before hell shift 2.

Also, the best possible way to thank me for losing my holiday evening so that you can take advantage of sales that we run multiple times a year and that will be in play through Sunday. Stop shopping on Thanksgiving. Stop shopping on Black Friday. Don't get out of bed before 11 AM on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Contribute to the utter destruction of the abomination called Black Friday.

You just need to come live in Australia, MO. We don't have Black Friday. It doesn't even exist here. You'd never have to work a Black Friday again.

If I weren't intending to escape Black Friday via escaping retail, that would be a very good way to get an Eldritch Horror looking seriously at Australian real estate (I can't guarantee success because other countries might catch my interest).

Black Friday seems to be a thing in Denmark now. My inbox is littered with "save *crazy amount* today! Black Friday!" it mostly seems to be internet based, fortunately. But I'm rethinking going Christmas shopping today.

I didn't mind Black Friday working retail (granted, I worked at a book store), it made the day go by faster than normal.

My high school job at McD's, right next to the mall (before the mall got a food court)--now, that sucked (and Black Friday wasn't as huge then either)

Yeah, definitely the same in any country. It was just kind of an epiphany that everything is so much easier now. I always made an effort to speak German, but now that I really speak German, life is easier.

It also makes me kind of snarky at my friends who don't even try. Like, how do they even live here? Also, I now totally get why Berliners resent English speakers who don't learn German.

Yeah, Germany too. I'm like "go away...we didn't even get a turkey dinner!" It's mostly online here too, but I've seen some real stores advertise their "black friday" sale. Luckily, I don't think anyone here really cares, so it won't be madness for the employees.

EDIT: apparently the UK has fully embraced the madness: http://www.theguardian.com/business/...fles?CMP=fb_gu

I've spent a fair bit of time in Germany, i always find if you at least try speaking german, they won't mind having to use english as well

I don't think it's catching on here, too close to christmas. But I must admit my favourite online bookstore has 50% off, I'm not saying no to that. black friday sale or not

                    You're crazy?

More seriously, Black Friday wouldn't irk me quite so much if it were treated as just a busy Friday. It's running campaign to stretch it out as long as possible + the fact that our culture is wholeheartedly embracing the idiotic behavior that gets random customers stampeded that moves it from annoyance to "Cleanse! Purge! Kill!"

That and this years 6-3 followed by 1-10 doesn't make me any more forgiving.

Do. Not. Remind. Me. I've been grouching about this all week. All because stores wants us to buy more. I giving homemade gifts to everyone for Christmas this year out of pure contrariness.

When I was working in California,I DID indeed have a copy of the labor code that I carried with me at all times. Picked it up at a labor board office that happened to reside in the same building I was working at. Best $10 bucks I ever spent,it was a pocket edition.

Couldn't say. The company in general goes out of their way to be benign on scheduling 363 days out of the year so I'm not intending to track down ammunition to pound them with over a schedule that's only really in play because we're running at half our normal operating staff. Bitch about it? All day long. Try and complicate life further? Not unless this becomes a regular habit.
