Medusa's Question Du Jour *the millenium edition!*
Re: Medusa's Question Du Jour *the millenium edition!*
Actually, guys...my babies both started getting teeth around 3 months, not exactly big enough to hold their heads up, much less eat real food. Between that, and that most animals are able to get their own food in a matter of months, tops, while human babies are still trying to make up for bring born essentially prematurely, so that out big noggins make it out of mama, and then go on to develop slower because of same said noggins, which need large amounts of essential fatty acids...it's not unnatural.

Not to mention...but v 2.0 is *still* teething at 2 (+3 months)...and not molars, but front teeth---all four canines.

Indian Chief 'Two Eagles' was asked by a white government official; "You have observed the white man for 90 years. You've seen his wars and his technological advances. You've seen his progress, and the damage he's done."
The Chief nodded in agreement.
The official continued; "Considering all these events, in your opinion, where did the white man go wrong?"
The Chief stared at the government official for over a minute and then calmly replied.. "When white man find land, Indians running it, no taxes, no debt, plenty buffalo, plenty beaver, clean water. Women did all the work, Medicine Man free. Indian man spend all day hunting and fishing; all night having sex."
Then the chief leaned back and smiled; "Only white man dumb enough to think he could improve system like that."
What's the latest a kid should be in diapers?
Really, it depends...
I have a friend whose child is almost five, but is speech delayed (his speech level is that of a 1-2 year old) and is not potty trained. Sophie knew would sit on the potty at 15 months, knew how to pee on the potty shortly after, was taking her diaper off when she went potty 2, but wasn't uninterested in going potty on the toilet for more than a day or two at a time until the week of her third birthday ...but once she did, she's barely had an accident (I can count the number of accidents since last spring on one hand, two of which were from when she was sick). Collin at two, loves to sit on the potty, but hasn't figured out what to do on it (other than flush it and giggle).
I think though, for most kids, somewhere between 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 is the "norm"...that is when most kids seem to get it on their own, and with some encouragement from their parents can more easily get it down. I'll be honest though, once a kid is about four, unless there is something else going on with the kid, I start to wonder about the parents. Even if you plan to go with the "when they are ready" method (which is sort of what I did), you still need to do *some* work and (at a minimum) pay attention to when they are showing interest and giving them some encouragement.

While they're awake? Six or seven-ish. You can delay them attending school a little bit, until they get it down.
At night? However long they need them. Seriously, one of my best friends wore pull ups to sleep until he was thirteen. He's turned out fine. He just has a week bladder and had to learn all the tricks to handle that.

i wouldnt let it go on to the point where they'd be going to school in them, but i've heard its easier if you let it be their choice. introduce them to the potty, and how its much more comfortable to not sit in your own fecal matter, than to force them to do it.
